Fire Station and Apparatus

We currently have four apparatuses:
Tanker 51 – 1977 Maxim Tanker – Rebuilt in 1997. Donated in 2011 from Georgetown, CT. Second due to fire calls

Engine 52 – 2005 E-One/International 4400 – First due to fire calls

Utility 53 – 2009 Haulin trailer – Wildland & support

Rescue 55 – 1984 Chevrolet C30 – Support, supplies, equipment, and personnel transport. Purchased 2017 from Waterford, VT

Newark VFD operates from a single station at 1558 Newark Street in Newark, VT. We are co-located with the Town of Newark Highway Department and share their garage. We utilize two bays of the five bay garage that also has a small kitchen, meeting area, and office for the Fire Department.

The current garage does not meet the needs of either the Fire Department or the Highway Department. Currently we house three vehicles in two truck bays. To take Rescue 55 out of the station requires first pulling out either Tanker 51 or Engine 52 out of their bay. The bays also limit our apparatus length to 25 feet which is not sufficient for modern fire apparatus.

In 2019 the Town of Newark formed a committee and hired a consultant to aid the town in planning for and securing financing to renovate the existing building or build a new facility. As of April 2024 this process is continuing and we are working on potential designs and looking at funding options. If you would like to assist with this process please contact the Newark Town Clerk’s Office at 802-467-3336. If you would like to donate towards the Fire Department’s share of this project please visit our donation page.
